It was one evening somewhere in 2010 if my memory serves me right, at the last Stars of the Future Music Reality Show, when i saw Amb Ibrahim Moomin Badingu , an artiste from the Upper West Region whom i had recorded before who introduced me to Wiyala as a student of Takoradi Polytechnic pursuing fashion who was a participant of the contest.
She was evicted from the show for lack of votes and failed performance and was so devastated since she had taken leave of her studies and participated. I drove them in my Golf car with registration number GT 523 W to my studio at Adabraka that night, counseled and consoled her that, it’s just a matter of time, she would blossom.
Another opportunity came and that was Vodafone Icons. She participated and lost that too. The frustrations grew worse but still encouraged her that one day, the whole world will notice her artistry and talent because i had noticed that in her voice, her stagecraft and energy.
Then came another episode of the Vodafone Icons where they were paired and fortunately, her group performed well. It was after the competition, that her breakthrough came. The rest is history.
Today, she’s one of the most sought after artiste performing to international audience, meeting great people, travelling all over the world, highly booked for concerts and festivals and enjoying fame! I look back at that night of despair and smile that at least, i contributed my quota.
My point here is, let’s have patience in life when we don’t succeed at first. Just stay focused and the rest would be fulfilled! It’s been a while since i saw her but, thanks to guys like Amb Ibrahim Moomin Badingu who supported her from the onset. I hope she pays homage to them.
With what i witnessed in Wiyala’s music journey from the onset, there’s hope for everyone. Stay blessed young and emerging artistes.
